Established in 1933 as the Steuben County Building and Loan Association, First Federal Savings Bank of Angola, as it is known today, has grown both physically and fiscally without sacrificing the exemplary customer service we have become known for.

In 1933, the Steuben County Building and Loan Association was formally established and, soon thereafter, formed a committee proposing the Association be re-named First Federal Savings & Loan Association.

By 1940, the Association had established its office on the southwest corner of the Angola Public Square. Its services consisted of simply passbook savings accounts and mortgage loans.

In 1971, the property at 212 East Maumee Street (current location) was purchased as a new building site for First Federal, and, by 1973, the Association office had moved.

Throughout the 1980s, many new services became available at First Federal. Beyond passbook savings accounts and mortgage loans, the bank began to offer CDs, construction loans, a night depository, and IRAs. By the late 1980s, the Association name was changed to First Federal Savings Bank of Angola, as it reads today. Also, in-house processing had become computer-generated while a physical expansion produced a full-service drive-up.

The early 1990s brought forth First Federal’s first ATM machine, a renovation of the teller/lobby area, and many of the convenient services we offer today. By the mid-1990s, however, it was foreseen that in order to better serve the community, the bank would have to further expand its walls.

In the fall of 1997, construction began and, in 1998, First Federal became an 18,000 square foot facility offering additional convenience and privacy to its customers. In 2002, the bank further expanded its services by offering its website, www.ffsbangola.com and NetTeller Online Banking.

In 2014, Mobile Banking was launched, further expanding First Federal's technological services. In 2016, the bank's website was updated to a dynamic, responsive design to better serve customers using different devices, operating systems, and web browsers. In 2022, the bank further expanded its services by offering online loan applications.

While changing with the times, the staff, officers, and directors of First Federal Savings Bank of Angola have not lost their sense of purpose: to serve the local community with convenient, friendly service...principles instilled within the bank over 90 years ago. First Federal Savings Bank of Angola demonstrates that together with advances in technology and increased services, banking can still be done locally and independently...with a smile.
